This project consists of a tenant improvement in a gallery + community setting. The scope of the project is over 30,000 square feet and is located in Flushing, Queens, a neighborhood in New York City. The designer was tasked with designing a community center that inspires people to come together and enrich the urban environment. The concept and design approach of this project involved a mixture of research of the location and the artist’s philosophy. The Crossroads Community Center honors the rich history of the past, and blends it with modern motifs through interior architecture and material expression.
For this return to office, I was tasked with the challenge of designing a 30,000 square foot space that inspired 150 workers to come back into the office after growing accustomed to remote work due to the pandemic. I chose the tenant Notion, a digital productivity software company who utilizes UX design that emphasizes user personalization and flexibility. With that in mind, the space planning and solution revolves around the philosophy of adaptability and customization. The spaces are designed with furniture that can suit all different kinds of users, and offers workers the option of changing their type of work setting everyday, so the office space never feels stagnant. The material palette was carefully curated to utilize Notion's fun and playful branding, and also balance natural materials to bring in the feeling of comfort and the familiarity of home.
