Radial Ritual is a community center in The Cabbage site in Créteil, France. This space was created with the intention of bringing the diverse community together in a common space. The goal of the project was to create a third space, outside of work/school and home, where people can congregate for different uses. To achieve this, the building has a tea garden where the harvested plants are then served as tea in the cafe. The design of the space is a nod to the original agricultural site where The Cabbage was built on.
For this project, LEGO is redesigning their office to create a more hospitality-focused work culture to bring excitement and a sense of community into their new space. This location will primarily house creatives and designers for the LEGO brand. To make their return more engaging, the office design was inspired by De Stijl, a movement well-known in the design community. The concepts that were mainly implemented in the design included: geometry, where grid systems are the basis for both LEGO and De Stijl; flexibility, where the adaptability and modularity of both allows for many uses; and finally, primary colors, which are featured in LEGO and De Stijl as a form of expression. By researching how LEGO sets are design and how the designers operate, I learned about a few things that would be valuable to implement in the design of the space. It was exciting and challenging for me to research user and client needs based off articles that were available to me and implement different solutions in the design.
