This project is a 2D adaptation of Act 1 of the children's play, El Pozo de Los Mil Demonios (The Well of a Thousand Demons), written by Mexican playwright, Maribel Carrasco. It tells the story of seven year old Jacinta on the night the town's terrifying drought demon steals her sacred water jug. She is then forced to go on a journey down a magical dry well in order to face her fears and retrieve it. The story is an allegory about the search for identity, the importance of collective memory and cultural roots, and the danger of oblivion. My goal for this project was to create an adaptation in honor of my Mexican roots and the colorful art, rich folktales, and imaginative storytelling I grew up with.
