“The Underworld” is a project inspired by my interpretation of the Hades and Persephone myth. In my rendition of the story, Persephone is a magical, druid-like being who finds herself far away from her enchanted forest home in the dark and industrial underworld. She meets Hades who acts as her guide as she tries to find her way home, while also exploring this strange new world and trying to bring life back into it. This story is meant to highlight character interactions and the duality and contrast of nature versus technology, the fragility of nature in such desolate environments, and the hope of making a difference.
This is a project that explores the narrative and complex character relationships of Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher” in a graphic novel format. In the story, a man is called to the home of a childhood friend who now seeks companionship as he grows paranoid of a curse ailing his family.
